Mary Elaine Gran

Gran, Elaine (Mary Elaine) of Kettering, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Elaine was born the oldest of four children to Virginia and Walter Adamson in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 24, 1934. She attended St. Mark’s Grade School and graduated High School from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1952 while growing up in St. Paul. Then she attended St. Catherine’s College. She was very proud of her 100% Irish Heritage.

Elaine married Robert James Gran on May 3, 1958. Robert was in the Air Force and they moved around until his final station at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. They stayed in Dayton after getting out of the service. She worked in the medical profession for many years. She enjoyed her large family, especially all of her eighteen grandchildren. The family beach vacations were so special to her. She loved to knit, member of Dayton Knitting Guild, and was an amazing cook. She was a charter member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish and took on many responsibilities over the years including CCD Teacher, member of the Church Choir, Eucharistic Minister and 6:15 a.m. Lector. Her devotion to Mary was steadfast. She loved all sports especially the Cincinnati Reds and her cherished Dayton Flyers. She was a charter member of University of Dayton’s Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI). She was the sweetest, kindest and most considerate person who loved being around people. She never met a stranger and always had a smile on her face. She was the most wonderful and special wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Walter Adamson; her sister Kathleen “Kay” Amelse; and her brother Michael J. Adamson. She is survived by her devoted husband Robert of 59 years, eight children: Sharon, Michael (Jennifer), Carolyn Danielson (Dale), Maureen, Dianne White (Lew), David (Jenn), Steven (Laura), Mary Joan Quinlan (Michael) and eighteen beloved grandchildren: Logan Webb; Patrick, Matthew, Jacob, Garrett Danielson; Maxwell, Jared, Colin Beach; Ellen Elizabeth, Jacqueline White; Ben Gran; Kiera, Aidan, Brennan, Ryan Gran; Connor, Kyle, Riley Quinlan: and her brother Patrick J.
