Lindy Moorman, 64, of Kettering passed away on Tuesday, March 7th at Hospice of Dayton. She was born on October 29, 1958 in Coldwater, Ohio to the late Jean and Cletus “Clete” Moorman. Lindy is survived by her husband of 41 years, Doug Wolf, her daughter Sandy Wolf, son-in-law Daniel Ash, and her beloved granddaughter Odette Ash. She is also survived by her sisters Laurie Ramirez, Ellen (Jon Elwell) Moorman, Terri (John) Johannes, and Lavada Moorman, as well as her brother Michael (Stacy) Moorman and close friends Larry Sqrow and Cheryl Shaw. She was preceded in death by her brother William Moorman.
Lindy was a smart and ambitious woman. She graduated as Valedictorian from Piketon High School and went on to attend the University of Dayton where she obtained both a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Business Administration. She worked as a chemist for many years, as well as an adjunct professor at the University of Dayton, before retiring early.
Lindy spent her free time traveling with her sisters and friends. She could always be convinced to join in on a trip, particularly if she had never been there before. She traveled abroad including Mexico, Canada, and Italy and made it to 49 of 50 states. Hawaii was the only holdout.
In addition to travel, Lindy loved to craft. She created copious numbers of quilts with the Moorman Family Quilters, she loved to bead with her friends from college, the Chambers Girls, and she did pretty much any other craft with her best friend, Lavada Moorman, and other friends.
Lindy always enjoyed building community. She participated for many years with the Ohio Child Conservation League, supporting childhood and its needs through education, philanthropy, and legislation. She served as state president of the OCCL and stayed close friends with many of its members over the years. She served as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter Sandy’s troop for years, leading the group on adventures that leaned more indoorsy. More recently, Lindy became involved with the Pink Ribbon Girls as she battled cancer, and she valued both the support she gained and the support she provided to others in the group.
Lindy will be remembered as a beloved mother, wife, sister, friend, and her newly treasured title, Nana. She had a loving, mildly sarcastic spirit and could always be counted on to wrangle a group of her unruly family. She will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held in June. Details to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pink Ribbon Girls (350 Huls Drive, Dayton, OH 45315), who supported Lindy throughout her cancer journey.
