KARPIAK, Michael Eugene, of Kettering, OH, passed away at the age of 85 on Thursday, February 9, 2017. He was born on September 5, 1931, in Dayton, OH to the late, Mihaly and Mary (Bodogan) Karpiak. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dolores “Dee” (Wuerstl); children, Kim (Doug) Lindley, Sharon Charbat, Deanna (Steve) Rasso, Deborah (Andrew) Gabriel, and Michael G. Karpiak; grandchildren, Casey & Nash Lindley, Carly (Dave) Koehneman, Paige & Connor Charbat, Christina, Steve III & Tony Rasso, Speros & Eileen Gabriel; great-grandson, Lennox; sister, Irene Hartings; in-laws Gloria & Richard, Mary & Ray, Barb & Don and many nieces and nephews. Mike was a 1949 graduate of Chaminade High School and then went on to achieve his Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering and MBA from the University of Dayton. Mike obtained his CLU, ChFC and MSFS. He was an independent financial consultant for nearly 50 years. He was recognized in 1995 as one of Dayton’s Top Salespeople and went on to achieve many more honors and awards throughout his career. Mike was a United States Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was an Emeritus Director of the Kettering Medical Center Foundation Board, member of AMBUCS, Knights of Columbus, Serra Club and a University of Dayton Golden Flyer. Mike enjoyed traveling, fly fishing, the mountains of Colorado, golfing, and was an avid UD basketball fan. Most of all, he loved his wife and family and was a devout charter member of St. Charles Borromeo Church. Mike was a man of wit, compassion and integrity who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Wednesday, February 15 at Westbrock Funeral Home (Bigger Road). The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am on Thursday, February 16 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, preceded by a visitation beginning at 9:30am. Mike will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
