Rau, Michael Anthony, age 55, of Kettering, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2017, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Michael was born on February 25, 1962, and dubbed “Prince Michael of Kettering” by his Grandfather Mauch. He lived and worked as a glazier in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for many years, returning to Kettering several years ago. For the past two years Michael endured multiple serious health problems, including organ transplants – challenges he faced with remarkable persistence and a faith that better times were ahead.
Mike enjoyed working with his hands, had an affinity for pet reptiles, including turtles and snakes, and was an avid Ohio State and Cincinnati Reds fan. He had many long-time friends, both in Florida and from the local community, who were very supportive of him throughout his illnesses.
Preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Dolores Rau, he is survived by brothers Tom (Pat), Steve, (JoAnne), sisters Peggy (Brian) Mays, Carole (Don) Neubauer, all from the Dayton area, and Mary (Mark) Hamburg, of Morrow. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Freddie Rau and Chris Beall, cousins he lovingly referred to as “brothers from other mothers.”
Services will be held at St. Albert the Great Church on Wednesday, April 19. Visitation will be held at the church at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to UC Medical Center - Liver Disease and Research, or LifeCenter Organ Donor Network. Arrangements by The Westbrock Funeral Home
