Oma Jean Moore, age 91, of Dayton, Ohio passed away at Miami Valley Hospital on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. She was born on November 20, 1926, in Salem, West Virginia to Q.V. Baker and Lettie Ford. She was married to Earle Paige Moore for 56 years.
Jean was a devoted mother and grandmother to her six children, Pam (Scot) Johnson, Kim Lampshire, Sherri Edwards, Bill (Noreen) Moore, Larry (Lori) Moore and Wendy (Kent) Nelson, 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was an enthusiastic supporter of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities including, ballet, basketball, baseball, football, soccer, swimming and track and field.
Jean received her bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Salem College and her Master’s degree in Education from Miami University. For 35 years, Jean worked as a Medical Technologist at Miami Valley Hospital. Jean made many sacrifices for her family including working at night so she could spend more time with her children. Jean had an unwavering faith in God. She was a lifelong member of South Park United Methodist Church and was a past-president of the United Methodist Women.
During retirement, she volunteered at Miami Valley Hospital and was a leader in the South Park caramel making project. She traveled the world with the love of her life, Paige Moore, visiting Canada, Europe, Mexico, and all 50 states, along with visiting her children and grandchildren on many occasions. Jean was an avid reader and card player.
The family wishes to thank all of the people who took care of Jean, especially Sharon Steineman, Jackie Stutz and the Miami Valley cardiac intensive care nurses and doctors. Donations may be given in her name to the United Methodist Women or the Dayton Food Bank. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 23 from 4-7 p.m. at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 5900 Bigger Road, Kettering, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m. at Westbrock, followed by the burial at Miami Valley Memory Gardens at 1639 E Lytle 5 Points Rd., Centerville, Ohio.
