Horstman, Paul L. , Age 74 of Kettering, Ohio, passed away April 9, 2016 at his home. He was born February 19, 1942 in Dayton Ohio to the late Leonard and Norma (Lang) Horstman. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Penny (Poeppelmeir). Paul is survived by his son Matthew (Crystal) Horstman, daughter Beth Zugelder, grandchildren, Zachary and Ashley Zugelder, Jordan and Jessica Horstman, and Jackie Brown. He is also survived by his sisters, Diane (John) Haemmerle and Marilyn (Jim) Thomeczek and his brother Mark (Janet) Horstman and many nieces and nephews and dear friends; Tom and Pat Rau and Mary Lou McCarthy.
Paul was a proud, lifelong Daytonian, educated at Holy Angels, Chaminade, University of Dayton (honors graduate) and he earned a full academic scholarship to the University of Cincinnati Law School, where he graduated with honors. He started his 30-year legal career as a Judicial Clerk for Judge Carl Weinman of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, then worked for Smith and Schnacke law firm and became partner at the Faruki, Ireland & Cox law firm. He was a devoted family man who adored his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. An enthusiastic, devoted UD Flyer fan, his licence plate "#1 Alum" says it all. He served on the Board of Trustees of the South Community Family (Kettering) YMCA, and enjoyed a retirement of continued reading and study, travel (especially to the beach) and rooting for the Flyers at every game and tournament he could attend. He has traveled as far as Peurto Rico, Maui, Orlando, and he drove to this year's Dayton-Duquesne game in Pittsburgh accompanied by three UD "Blue Men," including his grandson Zachery Zugelder, a graduating UD senior.
Family will greet friends from 4-7 on Wed. April 13 at Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Avenue in Dayton. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Kettering on Thursday April 14, 2016.
