STREHLE, Raymond T. “Deep”, age 88, of Dayton, passed away in his daughter’s home Sunday, February 7, 2016. Ray was born in Dade County, FL on December 6, 1927 to the late Clement and Kate (Heidgerken) Strehle. He is preceded in death by siblings: Lester of Beavercreek, Ohio, Fred of Kettering, Ohio, Vera Collins of Dayton, Ohio, Mary Hodapp of Beavercreek, Ohio, Elmer of California, Wilbur of Florida, Leona (Benner) LeFaber of Florida, Tillie Balsinger of Florida. Ray is survived by his wife of 66 years, Delores (Adams); a daughter, Gloria and husband, Dave Mattson of Mequon, Wisconsin; a son Brian and wife Gina (Smith) of Cincinnati, Ohio; 3 grandchildren, Marc-Anthony Macon, and Alexander and Courtney Mattson; plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Ray was an Army veteran serving in World War II in Korea, former business owner of Strehle’s Shoe Repair in St. Mary’s, Ohio, and a computer programmer at DESC for over 25 years. He was an active member of Ascension Parish serving at funerals, helping with rectory maintenance, counting collection funds, and working at bingo events among other volunteer activities. He also achieved the rank of Grand Knight as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Ray (Deep) lived with love: consideration, patience, and generosity towards others. He was deeply devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren and loved playing golf, gardening, camping, fishing, and playing all types of card games. After retiring, Ray and Dee enjoyed traveling extensively with their life-long friends throughout the country. This includes flying in a friend’s Piper Cub, a train trip out west, and multi-week road trip. And of course, he attended nearly every activity any of his grandchildren were involved in. Friends and family may visit from 10:00-11:00AM at Church of the Ascension, 2025 Woodman Dr. Dayton. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, February 12, also at the church. Ray will be laid to rest in Heritage Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to either the American Lung Association or Alzheimer’s Association.
