McNELLY, RICHARD E., of Washington Township passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014. He was born February 20, 1928 to the late Russell B. and Harriet Ellen (Lutz) McNelly of the Brookville area where Dick spent his childhood. Baptized and confirmed there at Providence Lutheran Church as was his father, grandfather and great-grandfather before him and all of his siblings. He attended the Brookville and Dixie schools and The Ohio State University where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity. A Veteran of WWII and member of the American Legion Post 5. Dick retired from the Berry Company after 37 years of service the last being spent in Japan as a consultant for the Nippon Telephone and Telegraph Company. He served as President of the Kettering Sertoma Club and the sales and marketing executives club of Lorain County. Dick served as Vice President of United Way of Lorain County and sales and marketing executives club of Dayton and also served on the Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau and the Dayton Job Corps. After retirement Dick enjoyed playing in the Dayton, Kettering, Miamisburg softball leagues and marshalling in the buy.com and LPGA golf tournaments. He was an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau, volunteer guardian/ad litum for the Montgomery County Juvenile Court and President of We Care Arts, a ministry helping those with special needs. Dick was also a member of SCORE, volunteer arm of the small business administration. He was preceded in death by Barbara, his wife of 46 years; son, Joel; sister, Ramona Mount and brother, Robert. Dick is survived by his daughter, Jill Player of Columbus; brothers: Donald P. (Phyllis) of Rochester, NY; Byron L. (Jacquelyn) of Centerville, Larry A. (Susan) of Victor, NY and sister, Doralene (James) Davis of Philadelphia, PA. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22nd at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering. The family will receive friends following the Service until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
