Mommsen, Richard Kenneth Sr. 83, of Bellbrook, OH, passed away peacefully at home September 23, 2011. Born September 17, 1928 in Jackson, MS to Dr. Peter H. and Priscilla Mommsen, Richard served in the U.S. Army and then after an honorable discharge began his career with Schering-Plough in Memphis, TN. He moved his family to Dayton, Ohio in 1961 after being transferred to work at the Schering-Plough subsidiary DAP, Inc. from which he retired as Vice President in 1988 after 37 years of service. Richard will be remembered for his kindness and for the Southern gentleman that he was. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elsie (St. Clair); children, Jeannette Mommsen Adkins (Mark) and Cheryl Mommsen Woods (Dan); daughter-in-law, Sherry Mommsen; grandchildren, Heather Mommsen Sheets (Chris); Mary Beth Mommsen; Bryan Kenneth Woods; Amy DeWine, Michelle Freemon and Quinn Le (Taylor); nephew, Peter H. Mommsen III; niece, Marilyn Carter and seven great grandchildren. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Peter H. Mommsen, Jr., his sister, Jeannette M. Palmer and his son, Richard Kenneth Mommsen, Jr. Visiting hours will be held Monday, September 26, 2011 between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering, Ohio. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Far Hills Community Church, 5800 Clyo Road, Centerville, OH. A funeral service will follow at the church at 10:00 a.m. with burial at David's Cemetery immediately after.
