LAWHORN, Rita Marie (Hinders) age 85 of Dayton passed away from ovarian cancer Monday November 19, 2012. Rita was born in Dayton on September 1, 1927 to Anna and Leo Hinders as the 5th of 8 Hinders children. Rita graduated from Kiser High School where she made many lifelong friends who enjoyed her passion for bowling. She married James Lawhorn on February 15, 1947 and celebrated 41 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1988. Rita worked at Delco in the 1940's and retired from the City of Dayton Public Schools Nutrition Services in 2006 at the age of 78. Rita was an accomplished bowler and was inducted into the City of Dayton Bowler's Hall of Fame in 1982. An avid euchre player, Rita was a lifetime member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lawhorn, Sr. and her son, James Lawhorn, Jr.; sisters, Esther, Leona and Barbara; brothers, Eugene, Thomas and Norman; nephews, George Koening, Jr. and Doug Wilson and son-in-law, John Gibbs. Rita is survived by her dedicated sister, Rosann Koenig and brother-in-law, George Koenig; children and spouses, Linda (Jim) Iacovo of Shelton, CT; Pamela (Louis) Iacovo of Scottsdale, AZ; Richard (Vickie) Lawhorn of Dayton; and Michele Gibbs of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Michelle Hench and Lisa Parmelee of CT; Michael Iacovo, Stephen Iacovo and Nicholas Iacovo of AZ; Richard Lawhorn of Dayton; Theresa Gibbs and Daniel Gibbs of FL.; Tiffany Lawhorn of IL, Christina Simon of FL; great grandchildren, Hunter and Clifford (Michelle Hench), Jillian (Lisa Parmelee), Dylan and Kyle Holmberg, (Tiffany Lawhorn), Lily (Christina Simon) and a host of loving nieces and nephews who supported and celebrated with Rita throughout her lifetime. Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 AM Monday, November 26 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church. The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 PM Sunday at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave. Burial, Calvary Cemetery.
