Schaefer, Rita High, “Gommy”, age 77, of Kettering, after a long illness, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday November 5, 2014. Rita was born in Dayton, Ohio on January 30, 1937 to Fred and Amalia High. She was the granddaughter of Charles and Gertrude Sucher. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, John L. (Jack) Schaefer and five children, John, Jr. (Laurie) of Hinsdale, IL., Julie (Brad) Myers, Carol (Ron) Beech, David (Julie) all of Dayton and Mollie Schaefer of Berwyn, PA. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, John L., III, Sydney, Marlie, Zachary, Adam, Nichole, Emily, Kaylie, Brett, Christopher, Joshua and Nathan. Also surviving is her sister JoAnn (Tom) Heed. Rita graduated from the University of Dayton in 1959, and taught in Germantown. She was a great wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She enjoyed going to their Michigan cabin and loved cross country skiing, swimming and being outdoors. Rita also was very artistic and did many arts and crafts as well as water color painting. Special thanks to the caregivers who helped her through many difficult months. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial 10:00am Monday at St. Albert the Great Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-5pm at The Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assn. or to a charity of your choice.
