On a rainy Sunday morning on June 25, 2023, Robert Grandfield, dearly loved husband, Dad, grandpa, opa and great-grandpa passed away at the age of 94. Originally from Fall River Massachusetts, Robert traveled extensively and lived at many places around the world during his exemplary military career. Eventually, he settled in Ohio and it became his home. As a young man, he married an extraordinarily wonderful, amazing and loving wife, Margot Charlotte, and basked in her love and devotion for 68 years. Robert and Margot have three adult children, Barbara, Robert and Norma; five adult grandchildren, Juliet, Cynthia, Katherine, David and Thomas and seven great-grandchildren, Emma, Sean, Eric, Amos, Paul, Winter and Rowen. His wife Margot and daughter Norma Jean preceded him in death in 2018. Robert happily extended his family to include late daughter Norma’s husband Edwin, son Robert’s partner Robin, granddaughter Juliet’s husband Matt, granddaughter Katherine’s husband Eric, grandson David’s wife Kylie and grandson Thomas’ wife Linda. Robert loved to explore interesting places and observe fascinating customs, cultures and events of the region. He loved nature. From the hot deserts of New Mexico, to the humid jungles of the Philippines, to the cold of Labrador and Korea, and so much in between, Robert explored and observed as he traveled. After his military career, Robert was a Manager of a sand and gravel plant. He had a special natural talent for driving anything with wheels or tracks… cars, trucks, bulldozers, loaders and tractors, to name a few among the wide variety of vehicles and heavy equipment. Robert will be laid to his eternal rest beside his beloved wife Margot in the historic Woodland Cemetery. Funeral services will be held, 1:00 pm Friday, June 30 at the Woodland Mausoleum. Graveside service to follow. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:00 Friday June 30 at the Woodland Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, Air Force Museum Foundation, National Park Foundation or the National Wildlife Federation.
