Montavon, Robert E., Sr., age 84, of Centerville, died peacefully in his sleep, Thursday morning, June 8, 2017, at St. Leonards. He was born in Akron, OH. on December 6, 1932 to Paul A. and Mary Elizabeth (McCormick) Montavon. He was married to his beloved wife, Carolyn C. (Bussan), of 56 years, in Akron, OH. on June 24, 1961. He retired in 1996, after 30 years, as Asst. Dir. of the University of Dayton, Roesch Library. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, five children; Robert (Christine Healy), Thomas (Renee Fordi), Letitia, James (Jennifer Hampton), and David (Tonya Myers) and 9 grandchildren; Allison, Alexander (Hilary Hatfield), Madeline, Gabrielle, Thomas, Maya, Cherie, Andrew and Maximus; and his youngest brother, Fr. Thomas G. Montavon. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Paul and John, and a sister, Sr. Mary Ann, HM. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus, served as Grand Knight for 2 years and then on the board for four years, was parish Rep. for St. Vincent DePaul and read the Wall Street Journal to the blind on Goodwill Easter Seals Radio Reading Service and many other causes special to him. He was always ready to help anyone in need. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, June 13th at 11:30am at St. Leonard’s, with Fr. Thomas G. Montavon the Celebrant and Fr. Gerald Haemmerle the Concelebrant. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30am at the Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
