SAUNDERS, ROBERT "BOB" age 85 of Kettering, passed away August 7, 2010. He was a devoted husband to Lillian (Tootie) for 55 years and a loving father to his 6 children. Robert was born November 16, 1924 in Dayton to Frank and Sophia (Babis) Saunders. He graduated from Patterson Co-op High school in 1943. During WWII he served his country in the Army Air Corp from August 1943 until September, 1945. He was a nose-gunner on the B-24 in the CBI Theater with the 308 Bomber Group, 425th Bomb Squadron. While he and Lillian started their family, Robert enrolled at University of Dayton earning a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Robert worked for the Aeronautical Systems Center at W.P.A.F.B. until his retirement in 1986.
Following Lillian's death in 2002, he showed his passion for airplanes by volunteering at the WPAFB Museum. To fill his need to stay busy he volunteered for the City of Kettering and Thursday night bingo at Ascension Church which he looked forward to every week. In his quest to stay fit, who will ever forget his 25 mile bike ride at age 82 in 85 degree heat, wow, what a guy.
He made all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren feel as they were his favorite.
