Robert A. Schmid

Robert A. "Bob" Schmid, age 86, passed away February 4, 2019 at Hospice of Dayton.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife Genevieve “Genny” Pellow Schmid; his parents, Albert C. and Bernadette Ahlers Schmid; sisters Mary Wiggenhorn, Ruth Andrews, Margaret Hjelmeland and Teresa Wendling; and granddaughters Jacqueline and Michelle Marks.

Bob was born in Dayton, Ohio on May 22, 1932. He was an accomplished trumpet player and music educator. He graduated from Chaminade High School in 1950 where he participated in the concert and marching bands.
Bob graduated with a degree in Music Education from the University of Dayton (UD) in 1954. He met his lifelong sweetheart, Genny, who was a member of the Marching Co-Eds drill team, in the UD marching band.
On October 2, 1954, Bob and Genny were married at Mary, Help of Christians Catholic Church in Fairborn, Ohio. Bob taught music for a year in Minster, Ohio, then was in the U.S. Army for two years.

In 1957, Bob became the band and choir directors at St. Henry High school in Ohio. In 1960 Bob and Genny moved to Huber Heights. Bob had a 24-year career teaching in Dayton Public Schools. At the newly built Meadowdale High school he was tasked with creating the first marching band program.
Bob taught at several elementary schools, including Gorman School where he started a band program for children with physical disabilities. Bob taught private music lessons at Hauer Music and at his home studio. In 1968, Bob created and directed the first choir of St. Peter Catholic Church in Huber Heights. Bob retired in 1984. He and Genny lived in Florida and Georgia for many years before returning to Ohio in 2007.
In 2017 Bob was inducted into the Huber Heights Performing Arts Hall of Fame, one year after his eldest son, Dr. Bill Schmid.

Bob and Genny had 63 happy years together. They raised eight children who were all involved in music and they lived to see their grandchildren perform, which gave them great joy.
