Ronald Lee Bergman

BERGMAN, Ronald Lee 73, formerly of Vandalia, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016. Born on February 23, 1942 in Dayton, OH, he was the son of the late Henry and Frances (Winner) Bergman. A 1960 graduate of Chaminade High School, he attended The University of Dayton before embarking on a 23-year career with The Rouse Company where he served as Group Vice President, managing the Salem Mall, in addition to five other malls in the US and Canada. He served for nine years on the Board of Trustees for the Maria Joseph Living Care Center and the Board of Trustees for Wegerzyn Horticultural Center. A tropical fish and Japanese Koi enthusiast as well as an award winning gardener and gourmet cook, he had a passion for entertaining and “impeccable taste”. Having family and friends in his home meant the world to him. Despite a 12-year battle with congestive heart failure he lived life to the absolute fullest and always asked “Are we having fun yet?” A man of strong conviction, he did it “My Way.” Most notably, however; he was a man of great faith. May the glory of his beautiful soul be given to its maker. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brother Everett Bergman and sisters Dolores Kloos and Dorothy Couvion. He is survived by his beautiful bride and wife of 39 years, Mary Ann (Hoyle) Bergman; daughters, Laura (Paul) Hunley, Meredith (Ken) Weibel; son, Bradley (Kathy) Bergman as well as seven grandchildren; Riley, Jack, Marin, Gabe, Lucy, Josh and Norah, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and amazing friends. A celebration of his life will be held this Saturday, January 9 at 10 a.m. St. Rita Catholic Church, 5401 North Main Street, Dayton and family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the late Dr. J.T. Smith and family, Dr. H. Michael Duke, Dr. Stephen Schreck, Dr. Augustus Eduafo, Dr. Nicholas Smedira, Dr. Maher Al-Samkari and countless nurses and aides for their unwavering compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association and Elizabeth’s New Life Center.
