LAFORGES, Saverio, 92, of Dayton, passed away on February 18, 2023. Saverio was born December 21, 1930 in Bittrito, (Bari), Italy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Giuseppe & Ripalta (De toma) LaForges, granddaughter Sophia LaForges, and great grandchild, Maci Eickman. Saverio is survived by his loving wife, Ascelsa LaForges (DePinto) of 63 years of marriage; daughter, Diane LaForges, sons and daughter-in-laws, Joseph & Sangeeta LaForges, Gene & Shelley LaForges, and daughter and son-in-law, Nancy & Erick Ortega; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas & wife Emily Culver, Elizabeth & husband Josh Eickman, Emily LaForges, Samuel LaForges, Siena LaForges, Sonia LaForges, Isabella Ortega, Vincent Ortega, Addison Carr, Ella Carr, and Emery Carr; 3 great grandchildren, Isla Culver, August Culver, and Jack Eickman.
Saverio grew up in Italy where he met his future wife at the town piazza. He spent 3 years in Australia in his early 20’s and then returned to Italy to marry Ascelsa on June 6, 1959. Unfortunately, at the time, entering the United States was not easy, but Saverio was finally able to join his wife in Dayton, Ohio in 1962. Saverio and his wife moved from Dayton, OH to New York City, NY where they spent 3 years before returning to Dayton, OH finally settling in Kettering, OH. Saverio retired from F&G Tool and Die Co. in 1998 after 30 years of dedicated service. During his lifetime, Saverio and Ascelsa worked extremely hard to achieve the American dream which provided them the opportunity enjoy some rest and well-deserved relaxation. In 2007 Saverio and Ascelsa bought a Winter home in Surprise, AZ where they enjoyed meeting new friends, playing bocce ball and participating in a variety of activities within the active adult community. Saverio was known for having an exceptionally good “green thumb” growing his garden while in Kettering and enjoying his fruit trees in Arizona. He was most proud when he was recognized by the city of Kettering for the pristine landscaping at his home property. Saverio enjoyed wood working, making wine, and making sausage with his family. Finally, Saverio loved opera and would be known to sing along with his favorite singer, Luciano Pavarotti, when with family.
Saverio will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice of Dayton and Oak Creek Terrace for the exceptional care they provided in his final weeks. Their compassion and care has left a lasting impression on those loved ones that were by his side. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
