Suzanne N. Dunn (Sue) of Kettering, Ohio passed away peacefully on October 28 , 2014 surrounded by loving family.
Sue was born December 11, 1935 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Carl and Theo Newhouser. As a teenager, she moved to Indianapolis and graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1953. She then attended Indiana University before moving to Florida to begin a career as a flight attendant for National Airlines.
Sue met Joe Dunn in Hollywood, Florida and she and Joe were married for 56 years and together they raised 4 children. Sue had a passion for animals her entire life, especially with dogs, in fact, Sue was known as the “Dog Lady”. After moving between Connecticut, Ohio, Texas and New Jersey for Joe’s career, she and Joe and the children settled in Kettering, where she raised and bred standard poodles for many years and also ran her own dog grooming business and taught adult education grooming classes for 25 years before retiring. During many of those years, Sue volunteered at SICSA and the Humane Society. Sue was a master of many trades including chef, chauffeur, accountant, tutor, pool manager, counselor and handyman to name a few. However, even taking all those accomplishments into consideration, Sue’s proudest and most important achievement was being a great mom for her children. She was without a doubt the glue that bonded the family together.
From 1996 until this year, Sue and Joe spent winters in Naples, Florida where Sue loved playing cards and bingo with her many friends and also taught sewing classes in their community. Sue was a friend to all.
Sue will now be reunited with her daughter Anne Marie who passed away in 2007. She is survived by her husband Joe; children; Mary Jane Pioli (Dave) of Seattle, Mike Dunn (Julie) of Indianapolis, Tom Dunn of Kettering; her sister, Betty Jo Frost of Virginia; and her son-in-law Art Williams of Kettering. Sue’s grandchildren are Patrick Dunn, Kirsten Perkins (Scott), Erika Dunn (children Aiden and Kian) Sullivan Dunn, Ciera Dunn, Gabrielle and Monica Dunn, Sienna and Isabella Pioli and her first great-grandchild Fae Perkins.
The family will be hosting a celebration of life in Sue’s honor on Sunday from 2-6 pm at the Kettering VFW Post 9927 at 3316 Wilmington Pike. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sue’s name to a charity or cause of your choice.
