DERBY, Thomas Patrick of Beavercreek, passed away into the hands of his merciful Lord on February 24th. He was born to Robert & Kathryn (Brunner) Derby on St. Patrick’s Day 1926, in Dayton, Ohio. The family moved to Southern California in 1930, when his father was sent by Monarch Marking Systems, to be the manager of their Los Angeles facility. Tom attended Good Shepherd Grammar School, Beverly Hills & St. Monica’s High School, Santa Monica. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America through his senior year in high school and a BSA counselor while in college. He graduated from high school in 1944 & enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he was trained as a Gunner on a B-29, reaching the rank of Sergeant by age 19. Discharged in 1946 he attended Loyola University, L.A. Graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and after graduating he started working for Monarch Marking Systems & was a long-time employee in California and Ohio for 32 years. In his later years in Dayton he served as VP of Manufacturing, VP General Manager International Division & Executive VP in the absence of the President. Tom met his first wife, Lydia Stuertz while in college and were married in 1952 and had 3 children. Lydia died in 1977. Tom was an avid golfer and played courses all over the world. He was a member of the Greene County Country Club where he met his 2nd wife, Mary Bryant and were married in 1991. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill; sisters, Jane, Eileen and his wife, Lydia. He is survived by his wife, Mary; sister, Barbara Hixon; his children, Steven Derby, David & Lynn Derby, Ann (Denny) (Derby) Reich & by Mary’s children, Clark Bryant, Ali & Sara (Bryant) Anousheh, Kelly Bryant & by numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 411 E. 2nd St., Dayton. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Compassus Hospice or the St. Vincent De Paul Hotel.
