Pettry, Virginia Mary (“Ginny”) of Wilmington, Ohio, died on July 29, 2017. She was 96 years old. Ginny was born on April 25, 1921 in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Anton and Agnes (Stauble) Horstman. Ginny was a 1939 graduate of Dayton Cooperative High School. She married Don Pettry in 1942. Ginny and Don owned the Pettry Variety Store on Wyoming Street in Dayton for 25 years. In 1971, Ginny and Don moved to Clinton County and farmed there with their son, John, for many years. Ginny loved her family above all else, and loved walking, reading, traveling, and baking, especially pies, cakes, and Christmas cookies.
Ginny is survived by her sons James (Janet) Pettry and John Pettry of Wilmington, her son Thomas Pettry of Dayton, her granddaughters Claire Pettry of St. Paul, MN, Sara (Federico) Aguilar of Columbus, OH, her great-grandson, Antonio Aguilar of Columbus, OH, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 74 years, James Donald “Don” Pettry, an infant son, Anthony Pettry, and her three brothers and their wives, Paul Horstman, Leonard (Norma) Horstman, and George (Norma) Horstman.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony Church in Dayton on Friday, August 4, 2017, at 10:30 A.M. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass on Friday at Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Avenue, Dayton, OH 45410 from 9:30-10:00 A.M. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery following the Mass.
