Macpherson, Reverend Walter J., “Sandy” died Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Maria-Joseph Center, Dayton. He was born on November 20, 1932 in Dayton, Ohio. He received a B.A. from The University of Dayton. He received a Master’s in Divinity from Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West, Cincinnati. He was ordained on May 31, 1986 at St. Rita Church in Dayton by Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk.
Father Macpherson received his first assignment on July 1, 1986 as Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Cincinnati. On July 5, 1989, he was appointed Associate Pastor of St. Peter Parish, Huber Heights. On September 2, 1993, he was appointed Temporary Administrator of St. Paul Parish, Englewood. He was appointed Temporary Administrator of Queen of Martyrs Parish, Dayton from July 6 through November 1, 1994. Fr. Macpherson was appointed Pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Dayton for a period of six years effective November 1, 1994. On November 18, 1994, he was re-appointed Temporary Administrator of Queen of Martyrs Parish, Dayton while continuing as Pastor of Holy Trinity Parish. Fr. Macpherson was appointed Temporary Administrator of Corpus Christi Parish, Dayton and St. Agnes, Dayton, while Fr. James Schulte was on sabbatical from August 22, 1996 through November 16, 1996. On November 2, 2000, Fr. Macpherson was appointed to another six-year term as Pastor of Holy Trinity Parish. Fr. Macpherson retired July 1, 2002. Fr. Sandy is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, David of Toledo, Jim (Mae) of Dayton, Don (Maggie) of Eaton and numerous nieces and nephews.
Reception of the Body: Friday, June 17, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 272 Bainbridge Street. Celebrant and Homilist: Reverend P. Del Staigers. Visitation until 8:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church. Celebrant: Most Reverend Dennis M. Schnurr. Homilist: Reverend Eugene F. Vonderhaar.
Burial: Immediately following Mass of Christian Burial at Calvary Cemetery. Celebrant: Reverend Christopher J. Worland
