Woeste, Walter J., Age 95, of Kettering passed away at St Leonard’s on November 8. A Dayton native, Walter was a 1938 graduate of Chaminade High School and obtained his Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Dayton, Class of 1942. He is a World War II Army Veteran, who served in Europe from 1942-1945. In 1946 he married his hometown sweetheart, Mary. He was employed as a civilian mechanical engineer at Wright-Patterson AFB in the Jet Propulsion Division until his retirement in 1979. As a charter member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish for 52 years, he was a Eucharistic Minister and after retirement attended daily morning mass. He loved gardening and music and was an active member of the NAIM Club. Walter and Mary were avid Dayton Flyer football fans and they were 68 year season ticket holders. He was a member of the Golden Flyers and the Leo Meyer Society. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary I. (Boland) and 2 brothers, Raymond and Elmer. He is survived by his brother Victor of Dayton, Ohio and his seven children: Rosemary Woeste of Kettering, Joseph (Patti) of Centerville, Eileen (Tim) Mitchell of Glendale, Arizona, Maggie (Harold) Dick of Acworth, Georgia, Marian (Bill) Saluke of Kettering, Barbara Woeste of Houston, Texas, and John (Nancy) of Miamisburg; 13 Grandchildren, Benjamin, Nicholas and Christopher (Jen) Woeste, Kathleen, Emily and Robert Mitchell, Jessica, Dan (Christina), Greg (Kate) and Joe Saluke, Rachel, Kevin and Michelle Woeste; 3 Great-grandchildren, Indio Silva, Evan Saluke and June Saluke. Visitation is on Wednesday, November 11th from 5-8 PM at Westbrock Funeral Home at 5980 Bigger Road. Mass of Christian Burial is on Thursday, November 12th at 1PM at St. Charles Borromeo Church with viewing 45 minutes prior to the celebration. Following the service, burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. The Family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Rehabilitation Center at St. Leonards for their compassionate care.
