RUSCHAU, WILFRED V. (BILL) Age 98, passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2016. He is reunited with his beloved Luella (spouse of 68 years), his parents & eight siblings who preceded him in death. He was the cherished father of seven daughters: Elaine (Jim) Sliemers, Eileen (Tim) Logsdon, Joan (Greg) Dunsky, Janet (Joe) Schaeff, Linda (Gary) Evans, Betty (Steve) Beaty, & Pamela Ruschau (Joe Kestler). He was treasured by his grandchildren: John (Beth) & Charlie (Abby) Sliemers; Cheryl (Jason) Knight & Doug (Katie) Logsdon; Gina (Nick) Cornwell &Sam (Molly) Dunsky; Emily & Andrea Schaeff, Alyssa (Tim) Nguyen; A.J., Vince & Jake Evans; Nicholas, Nathan & Jason Beaty. Proud ‘great-pa’ to 11 great-grandchildren: Danny, Lucia & Andrew Sliemers; Jace, Jaxyn, Jadyn, Jaren & Jasmine Knight; Sterling & Charlotte Logsdon; & William Cornwell. Devoted brother-in-law of Viona Ruschau, Lee Schroeder & Donna (Ray) Mangen; loving uncle to many nieces & nephews. Bill was a patriotic veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific for 4 years in the Army Air Corps Flying Circus, where he was responsible for the automatic pilot of the B-24 Liberators. He was a 75-year member of Carpenter’s Union Local #104. Having learned the construction trade from his father, he utilized his talent during a 30-year career with Henry Stock & Son and Shook, Inc. A devout Catholic and the consummate family man, Bill also enjoyed Flyer Basketball, Reds baseball, Big Band music, working in his garage, and playing cards with family & friends. He was a wonderful blend of strong and sweet, hard work and humor, self-sufficiency and service. He was an exceptional man whose memory will continue to warm the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. Prayers will be held at Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave., on Saturday, May 28, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 411 E Second St. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4-8 on Friday, May 27.
