BOARIO, WILLIAM R., born in Leechburg, PA, September 27, 1917 Raineri Boario and Angela (Garaffi) Boario. He graduated from Leechburg, PA High School in 1935. William was employed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton for 32 years and 4 years as a technical consultant with Systems Research Laboratory, Dayton and also the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan (Erim), Ann Arbor, MI. Mr. Boario devoted his professional efforts toward advanced aerospace electromagnetic sensors, data processing techniques, and related devices for the detection and tracking of aerospace and ground targets. His work on poly frequency cross correlating radar earned him a reputation as one of the nation's authorities on radar sensors. His efforts produced the design, fabrication and flight testing of the first radar of this type. He has received several awards for his thorough knowledge of aerospace electromagnetic sensors and his expert skill in engineering and design including the Air Force Civilian Meritorious Award in 1963. Mr. Boario also received the Pioneer Award from the Ieee Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (2003) and the Aviation Week's Lauerate Award in Electronics (2004). He was a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. William was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Joseph and Frank Boario and three sisters: Mary Boario, Jean Magaro and Dora Boario. He is survived by his wife Gussie of 40 years. Also survived by five nephews: John Magaro (Kathy) of Chambersburg, PA; James Magaro of Munroe Falls, OH; Joseph Boario (Leona) of Leechburg, PA: Anthony Boario (Liz), of Alaska and Frank Boario of Vandergrift, PA; and five nieces, Janet Nock (Joseph) of Allison Park, PA; Linda Burg (Mike) of Berwyn, PA; Maria Boario of Leechburg, PA; Joanna Bastian of Bowie, MD and Mary Ellen Boario of Waupaca, WI. Visitation will be held, Friday, December 4th from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering. Burial will follow at David's Cemetery Mausoleum. The family would like to thank Liberty Retirement of Washington Township for all of your care and compassion of William.
