SCHAEFER, William J. age 86, of Washington Township, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Geraldine L. Schaefer. Once again, he joins her to dance, together. Born in Philadelphia, he served in the US Army during World War II in both the European and Pacific campaigns. Post WWII, he graduated from the University of Dayton in Mechanical Engineering and, over a youth group pool table, he met a cute young woman named Gerry. He then landed a job and married his sweet love. Together, they lived their lives as one and raised a wonderful family. He worked as a design engineer for NCR in Dayton until his retirement. Dad was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Church. As a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather he is dearly missed by his seven children and their spouses: Bill (Pat), Tim (Carol), Cindy (Mike) Lauvray, Rick (Nora), David (Karen), Julie (Rob) Landon, and Mary Ellen (Scott) Beam. He was grandpa to 14 grandchildren: Chris, Eric (Megan), Jackie, Angie, Emily, Kyle, Phillip, Lauren, Nicole, Brooke, Kaitlyn, Sam, Michelle and Jennifer and great-grandpa to Katie and Jessica. Friends and family may visit at The Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave. Tuesday, October 25 from 4 - 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on 10:00am Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church . Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Dayton.
