William E. Stueve

Stueve, William Edward born in Dayton, OH on August 8, 1940.

Bill passed away surrounded by family at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on January 4, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents Martha (Burkhardt) and Edward Stueve, and by sisters Joanne Daley, Carolyn Wittmann and Virginia Clark.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Laurie (Lyons) Stueve, daughters Lynn (Mike) Ginaven, Jill Gaydos, and Kim (Jeff) Mays, his sister, Mary Martha Rabe, 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was a talented carpenter and owned his own business, Stueve Remodel & Repair. In retirement, he loved making gifts out of wood for family and friends, most notably, toy trains. He also made toy cars for the charity Toys for God’s Kids who gave toys to kids in need around the world.

Although a quiet man, he was a first rate joke teller and liked making people laugh. He loved animals, especially dogs, and enjoyed being outdoors. He was very proud to be a 100 gallon blood donor. He enjoyed spending time with and teaching his trade and interests to his grandchildren and other family members.

Lastly, the family is respecting Bill’s wishes that the following be included in his obituary:

“I belonged to the Catholic religion my entire life, but was driven from the church by the immoral behavior of the church leaders. When the priests, bishops, cardinals and popes decided to condone and conceal the abuse, molestation, sodomy and rape committed by their fellows, it was beyond my moral tolerance. I therefore stopped contributing to and attending the church of my birth. I tried to make clear that the welfare of children was much more important to me than the protection of a pedophile, or the reputation of a church with so little moral compass that it concealed and protected those very same pedophiles.”

The family will receive friends 3:00-6:00 pm Sunday, January 7 at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Rd., Kettering. Services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, January 9 at the Calvary Cemetery Chapel, Fr. Chris Wittmann officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Christ Child Society of Dayton and please consider donating blood.
