Our team is dedicated to guiding families through the process of creating personalized, meaningful services, whether you’re in Dayton or Kettering. By providing the same compassionate, quality care at both locations, we ensure families have the flexibility to honor their loved ones with ceremonies that truly capture the essence of the person they cherish.

Creating Personalized, Memorable Services

Personalization is at the heart of what we do at Westbrock Funeral Home. We know that a well-planned, unique service can offer comfort and peace to families, allowing them to celebrate the qualities and moments that made their loved ones special. Our team works with families to weave personal touches into every service, helping create a lasting tribute. Here are some ways we help families personalize their services:

Photos and Albums

Photographs are a powerful way to capture and share the essence of a loved one’s life. At Westbrock Funeral Home, we offer several ways to incorporate photos into the service, creating a visual journey of cherished memories. Families can create poster boards with photo collages, allowing guests to reflect on key moments and milestones. We can also set up easels to display framed photos throughout the space, highlighting important life events and special memories. For those who prefer a modern approach, flat screen monitors are available to showcase slideshows, which can be played during calling hours or before the ceremony begins. These visual tributes bring warmth to the service and create a shared experience for everyone attending, fostering connection through the memories captured in each image. In addition, photos can be printed in the memorial folders, registry book, or even on the urn, providing lasting mementos for family members to take with them.

Videos

A tribute video is a heartfelt way to showcase a loved one’s journey, capturing their life in motion. We work with families to create a custom DVD video that combines meaningful photos, favorite music, and perhaps even short video clips, weaving together a visual story that honors their legacy. This video can be shown during the service, allowing family and friends to reminisce and connect with moments they may remember or see for the first time. Tribute videos become treasured keepsakes, something that families can revisit and share for generations. Some families choose to distribute copies to close relatives, ensuring that this tribute to a life well-lived remains a cherished family memory. These videos are also a beautiful way to include loved ones who couldn’t attend the service, allowing them to feel part of the tribute even from afar.

Artwork

For many, art is an essential expression of personality and passion. Incorporating artwork—whether it was created by the deceased or crafted in their honor—adds a personal and meaningful element to the service. Families are welcome to display paintings, sculptures, or other artwork by their loved one, allowing guests to experience their creativity and passion. For those who were admirers of art rather than artists themselves, we can help incorporate their favorite pieces or styles, transforming the space with visuals that reflect their tastes. Slideshow displays of drawings or photographs, or placing sculptures and artwork throughout the funeral home, provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the person being honored. This artistic tribute creates an intimate atmosphere, inviting guests to connect with the individual’s interests, talents, and unique spirit in a tangible way.

Music

Music has a profound ability to evoke memories, emotions, and connections. At Westbrock Funeral Home, we encourage families to include music that was meaningful to their loved one. This can range from favorite songs and genres to tunes they wrote or performed. Families may choose live or pre-recorded music, adding another layer of personalization to the service. We can help arrange for live performances by friends or family members, creating a moving and unique tribute that resonates with everyone in attendance. Additionally, we offer the option to create a custom CD featuring a collection of the deceased’s favorite songs, which can be shared with family and guests as a keepsake. Music has a way of bringing comfort and connecting people, and a well-chosen song can remind everyone of shared moments and special memories. A musical tribute helps to create an atmosphere of remembrance and love that everyone can feel.

Readings of Poetry & Literature

Including passages from favorite books, poems, or original writings brings a sense of depth and personalization to the service. Family members and friends are invited to share meaningful excerpts that capture the essence of their loved one’s life, values, or outlook. These readings can come from literature the deceased enjoyed, spiritual texts, or poems that capture shared experiences and reflections. Some families choose to have multiple people participate, each reading a passage that reflects their relationship with the loved one. Others may prefer to have close friends or family write and share original pieces, offering a heartfelt and unique tribute. This combination of wisdom, memory, and shared words brings comfort to those gathered, connecting everyone through language that resonates deeply. It’s a powerful way to honor the deceased while sharing in the beauty and poignancy of words that hold personal meaning.

For over a century, Westbrock Funeral Home has been a cornerstone of compassionate service in Dayton, Ohio . Established in 1892 by Ben Westbrock , the funeral home has grown from a modest establishment on Wayne Avenue to a trusted name for families seeking meaningful ways to honor their loved ones. Today, the third and fourth generations of the Westbrock family proudly continue this legacy, offering personalized services rooted in care, respect, and personal connection. Our Legacy: A Rich History of Service Westbrock Funeral Home is more than just a funeral home; it is a piece of Dayton’s history . Founded by Ben Westbrock, who trained as an undertaker following the Civil War , the business began at the corner of Wayne Avenue and Pearl Street in 1892. Ten years later, Ben purchased his former employer’s establishment, solidifying his place in the community. In 1923, Ben acquired an elegant 1865 Italianate/Second Empire-style residence, originally built by Samuel D. Edgar as a wedding gift for his daughter. This historic home, perched atop a hill at 1712 Wayne Avenue, became the first modern funeral home in Dayton and remains a cherished landmark. In 1988, it was honored with placement on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service. In 1992, Westbrock Funeral Home expanded with a second location in Kettering, extending its reach to serve even more families. With over 130 years of tradition, Westbrock Funeral Home stands as Dayton’s first funeral home, deeply woven into the fabric of the community.
